Cheatham County Education Hall of Fame Class of 2023

The Cheatham County School District is proud to announce the selections for the third class of the Cheatham County Education Hall of Fame.

Twelve individuals who made their mark in the district will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during a special ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cheatham County Central High School theatre.

The district created the Hall of Fame in 2021 to honor individuals who have demonstrated measurable influence and made significant contributions to the growth and development of education in Cheatham County.

Members of this year’s class include (in alphabetical order): 

• Susanne Buttrey, a Pleasant View Elementary School teacher and librarian and Sycamore Middle School librarian. She was with the district for 40 years. 

• Chloe Corlew, a Cheatham County Central Office payroll/insurance clerk and bus driver. She was with the district for 30 years. 

• Mickey Dyce, an East Cheatham Elementary School and Sycamore Junior High School music teacher, Cheatham County Central High School music teacher and assistant principal and Pleasant View Elementary School principal. He was with the district for 37 years. 

• Sherry Gibbs, an East Cheatham Elementary School teacher, Cheatham Middle School assistant principal, East Cheatham Elementary School principal, Kingston Springs Elementary School academic specialist and district elementary education supervisor. She was with the district for 30 years.

• Steve Hall, a Cheatham County Central High School technology education teacher. He was with the district for 36 years. 

• Richard Johnson, an Ashland City Elementary School physical education teacher, Cheatham County Central High School teacher and coach and district secondary education supervisor and transportation director. He was with the district for 33 years. 

• Millie Jones, a Pegram Elementary School teacher and reading specialist and Ashland City Elementary School principal. She was with the district for 30 years. 

• Pete Justice, a Cheatham County bus driver. He was with the district for 40 years. 

• Peggy Pinkelton, a Cheatham County Central High School math teacher. She was with the district for 27 years. 

• Janelle Powell, a Cheatham County Central High School business teacher, vocational director, and assistant principal. She was with the district for 37 years. 

• Pat Wallace, a Cheatham County Central High School business teacher, a Pleasant View Elementary School, West Cheatham Elementary, Ashland City Elementary School, Sycamore Middle School, Cheatham County Central High School, and Sycamore High School librarian. She was with the district for 34 years. 

• Dianne Williams, an Ashland City Elementary School teacher, Pegram Elementary School principal, Sycamore Intermediate School/Sycamore Middle School principal, district middle school supervisor, interim director of schools and chief academic officer. She was with the district for 35 years. 

 A committee has been established to select the Hall of Fame class, and nominations for next year's class are being accepted through June 30, 2024.

Eligibility requirements for nominees include: 

• Been retired from the CCSD a minimum of 5 years at the time of consideration. 

• Have been employed for a minimum of 20 years and must have distinguished themselves by demonstrating exceptional leadership, character and achievement during his/her tenure for the CCSD.

• Posthumous nominations will be accepted.

• Brief personal biography of nominee (dates of service and positions held during career).

• Brief narrative of significant educational contributions of the nominee.
