School Board opposes voucher plan

In December, the Cheatham County School Board unanimously passed a resolution in opposition to Governor Lee’s proposed Education Freedom Scholarship Act.

A copy of this resolution has been sent to our local state lawmakers and the governor’s office.

The proposed legislation will have a detrimental impact on our students, schools, and community, according to the resolution.

Additionally, the resolution states that “Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) threaten the district’s ability to maintain the quality of its educational offerings as ESAs would divert state funds to private actors, disrupt local control of education, and potentially provide control over education to out-of-state special interest groups.”

In passing the resolution, the School Board urges the Tennessee General Assembly to consider the effects that ESAs will have on local school districts and to instead seek out ways to support and strengthen public schools throughout the state.
