Sycamore students attend Governor's School

Two Sycamore High School students participated in the prestigious Tennessee Governor’s Schools this summer.

Josh Novotny, a rising senior, attended the Emerging Technologies School June 4-24 at Tennessee Tech University.

Anna Kate Saylor, a rising junior, attended the Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage School May 28-June 23 at East Tennessee State University.

The Tennessee Governor's Schools provide 11 challenging and high-intensity programs for rising juniors and seniors and students must be nominated by high school faculty. There is no cost to attend. However, students must apply during the school year and meet certain criteria.

Each school offers a unique learning environment for students. They are able to earn college credit and participate in a variety of educational and hands-on activities and projects.

Anna Kate is the third in her family to attend a Tennessee Governor’s School.

Her brother, Daniel, attended the Computational Physics School in 2019 at Austin Peay State University. Her brother, Brendan, attended the Sciences and Engineering School in 2022 at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
