District to close for remainder of the year

During a news conference on April 15, 2020, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced that he is recommending that all public schools in the state remain closed for the rest of the school year due to COVID-19.

Therefore, the Cheatham County School District will honor his request and stay closed through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This includes our daycares.

However, we will continue with online and work packet learning opportunities weekly through May 22. Teachers will be available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and will continue to check in with students.

Opportunities for students to bring up grades will continue through May 15, but no student can receive a grade lower than what he/she had on March 20. Please contact your child’s teacher or school for additional information regarding academics.

Our meal distribution program will continue through May 22. Breakfast and lunch meals will be given out to families on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Pegram Elementary Fine Arts Magnet School, Ashland City Elementary School and East Cheatham Elementary School.

We know this global pandemic has been especially difficult for the Class of 2020 and many have asked if we will hold our graduation ceremonies.

Due to the governor’s announcement, we will not be able to have our graduations on the scheduled dates. However, we are committed to honoring our seniors for their achievements at a later date.

Our time frame for releasing information on possible ceremony dates and locations is unknown at this time. That information will be based entirely on safe health guidance issued at the national and state levels.

We know our families and students have many questions since we are not returning to school so we will make additional announcements via social media and on our website as decisions are made and more information is known.
