Dr. Cathy Beck has served as the Cheatham County Director of Schools since July 2017.

Dr. Beck has been in education for 30-plus years. She spent 18 years teaching elementary school in Florence, Ala.

In Colorado, Dr. Beck was a middle school dean of students, high school principal, principal of an International Baccalaureate Dual Language elementary school and an assistant superintendent.

Under her direction, both the high school and the elementary schools won the Governor’s Award for Exemplary Academic Growth six years in a row. The elementary school was named one of the top dual language schools in the nation by the Spanish Embassy. The elementary school won both the state and national “Exemplary Literacy Program Awards" as well.

Dr. Beck has written three books: Easy and Effective Professional Development, Leading Learning for ELL Students and Mice in the Ivy, a children's book.

She is a college professor teaching in the doctoral programs for both Concordia University of Portland and the American College of Education in Indianapolis.

She has been the host of a weekly Twitter chat for educators across the nation and a featured guest blogger for Education Weekly.

Dr. Beck is a national conference presenter having most recently presented at the International Society of Technology in Education’s Summer Conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Personally, she and her husband, Skip, have six children, two dogs and a cat. They live in Kingston Springs. Skip’s family lives on a farm in Sawdust in Maury County. They are both thrilled to be in Cheatham County and count their lucky stars to be back in God’s country.
