CCCHS names new boys basketball coach

Aaron Nicholson has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Cheatham County Central High School.

Nicholson, who has been the team’s assistant coach for seven years, will replace Josh Stuart, who is stepping down after seven years as head coach.

"I'm thankful and blessed to have this opportunity to do the thing that I love. I have really enjoyed being an assistant coach, but I'm excited to see what I can bring to the table as a head coach. I want to thank Stu for being a great mentor to me over the past seven years and helping me prepare for this opportunity,” Nicholson said.

He added: “I also want to thank Principal Steve Wenning for first giving me the job at Cheatham to start my career and for him sticking with me to further my coaching career. I love Cheatham County Central High School, and I'm excited to continue to help this program grow.”

Nicholson is a 2008 graduate of Sycamore High School and 2012 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. He was the school’s head volleyball coach for three years.

The coaching change is effective July 1.

The Cheatham County School District thanks Stuart for his many years of dedicated service to the Cubs basketball program as both a player and coach. He played for the Cubs, graduating in 1999, and was an assistant coach for 10 years before being named head coach in 2013.

Under his leadership, the Cubs won three district titles and his 2013-2014 squad went undefeated in the regular season with a 25-0 record.

Stuart will continue to work for the district’s Technology Department.
