Student laptop drop-off schedule announced

The Cheatham County School District has announced the dates and procedures for when district-issued laptops for students in grades 7-11 can be returned.

Many of our schools are using the same schedule to return/drop-off/pick-up all school property so please watch for this information from your child’s school via social media or email. Specific directions on how the process will be handled will also be included in that communication.

When can the laptops be returned?

The laptops will be returned at various dates at our middle and high schools (see the list for each individual school).

What if there is a known issue with a laptop?

If there is a known issue with your device, then please communicate that to us via an email to our remote help desk, [email protected], so that we can get your device up and running so you can continue to utilize it through the end of the school year.  If you are aware of any hardware-related issues with the device and cannot have it worked on prior to turning it back in, then please attach a note to the outside of the computer so that we are aware of the issues we will be facing prior to imaging.

How will the laptops be returned?

The process will work like a drive-through system, with parents and students driving up to the school to the specified area and remaining in their vehicles during the entire process. Please make other arrangements if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 in order to protect the health of staff who are working at the checkout.

What needs to be returned?

Students must return three items: their laptop, power adapter, and case. Personnel at each middle and high school will document the return of all equipment during the designated drop-offs days/times. If you don’t return a power adapter or case, you will not receive one when school resumes in August. However, OEM adapters can be purchased through the district at the beginning of the school year for a discounted price.

What happens if a laptop is not returned?

Laptops not returned will be considered stolen per the district’s Equipment Agreement Form that was annually signed by the student, as well as a parent/guardian. We have the right, by legal means, to retrieve CCSD property if not properly returned. If a device is not returned, then records will be withheld and a police report will be filed.

Will students be able to keep their laptops if they paid the annual security deposit for the past three years?

Yes. This only applies to current freshmen (9th) and sophomores (10th). These students will be able to keep their laptops ONLY IF they have paid the annual security deposit for the past three years ($30 a year). If you have only paid the deposit for the PRIOR two years, you can make the $30 payment for the third and current year during the designated drop-off dates. You can then keep the laptop after doing so and it will no longer be property of the CCSD, but rather the student’s personal property. However, if you already own your laptop or will own your laptop after making the final payment, we encourage you to allow our staff to reimage during this summer for further utilization of the device within the 2020-21 school year. In doing this, it can extend the life of the laptop for additional years. Those laptops will then be re-distributed when school resumes in August. We will set up drop-off times in late July/early August if your student would like their device to be re-imaged prior to the fall semester.

Is there someone to contact if there are additional questions?

Please send an email to [email protected] for further assistance.
