New school reopening plan announced

The Cheatham County School Board endorsed the district’s reopening plan for the 2020-2021 school year at a special-called meeting on Thursday, July 30.

Elementary schools (grades Pre-K-4) will operate on the traditional model and middle and high schools (grades 5-12) will operate on the hybrid model (a mixture of in-person and virtual learning) through Labor Day (Sept. 7, 2020).

Decisions to continue in this manner will be made the first week in September and will be based on current COVID-19 numbers in Cheatham County as well as other health-related and attendance data.

Students in grades 1-9 will attend Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 with a 10:45 a.m. dismissal. The first full day for students in grades 1-12 is Friday, Aug. 14, 2020. Pre-K and Kindergarten students will begin full time on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020.

Again, all families have been given a choice for virtual learning. Students who chose virtual will attend online starting on the first day of school. Additionally, if virtual learning has been selected, families must complete a virtual learning contract, which is available here.

With the middle and high schools operating on the hybrid model, please refer to the charts on this page for the Thursday, Aug. 13 and Friday, Aug. 14 schedules. The regular hybrid schedule will be effective Monday, Aug. 17.

We encourage all families to read the plan in its entirety as it will answer your questions (under Attached Files).

We have also included a “Reopening Our Schools” section on our website, and it includes a number of helpful links. The section can be found here.
