The Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) and Tennessee Department of Education, in collaboration with Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, have announced the launch of a new K-3 Book Delivery program to deliver 580,000 books to 58,000 kindergarten through third grade students and teachers across the state.
The Cheatham County School District is among the school districts participating in the K-3 School Year Book Delivery program, which will deliver books and literacy resources directly to the homes of students and teachers, at no cost to families or participating school districts.
A book pack consists of 10 high-quality, grade-appropriate books with guided activities and tips for parents to engage with students as they read. Additionally, K-3 families will gain access to engagement tips via text.
“This is exciting news for our students,” said Director of Schools Dr. Cathy Beck. “Students can begin their own home library. Along with the books the students will receive, parents will also be provided with weekly tips about being a partner in their child’s education – a great opportunity for our school and parents to work together and partnerships.”
Our elementary schools will be sharing information about this opportunity with the families of our K-3 students.
If you would like to participate, no other action needs to be taken.
If you choose NOT to participate, then please follow the procedures to OPT OUT: Call 615-746-1406 or email Tracy Roberts at [email protected]. Please leave your name, your child’s name and your child’s school. Taking this step will ensure your child will NOT receive the books. In order to opt out, you must call and do so by 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15. After that time, we will not be able to remove your child from the recipient list.
