HMS welcomes new assistant principal

The Cheatham County School District has named Layne Cooper as the new Harpeth Middle School assistant principal.

Cooper replaces Dr. Karley Miller, who is pursuing career opportunities outside of the district.

Cooper comes to HMS from the Dickson County School District, where she has served as a behavior interventionist since August 2020.

Cooper began teaching in 2012 and has worked in previous roles as a Pre-K, kindergarten, first, and second grade teacher. She taught in the classroom for eight years before moving into the role of district wide behavior interventionist, serving all schools in Dickson County.

She earned both her bachelor’s degree in early childhood development and master’s degree in educational leadership from East Tennessee State University. In 2021, she began the doctoral program in Educational Leadership at ETSU.

“I am so excited to serve in this capacity as assistant principal at Harpeth Middle School. I look forward to helping students, staff, and families create a successful learning experience,” she said.
