Sycamore senior to study abroad

Emely Navarrete, a senior at Sycamore High School, has received a conditional offer of study at the prestigious Norland College to become a professional nanny.

The world-renowned institution in Bath, England has been training professional nannies for high-profile families around the world, including the royal family, since 1892.

At Norland, students earn both a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Education and Care degree and the prestigious Norland diploma.

They take rigorous courses on early childhood education, child psychology, brain development, cooking, nutrition, sewing and more. They even learn how to keep their charges safe with cybersecurity training from former military intelligence officers, self-defense classes and advanced driving skills.

Norland graduates are in high demand around the world due to their extensive training and professionalism.

Navarrete said she is excited about the opportunity to attend Norland and to pursue her career goals.

“For as long as I can remember, I've always had a drive to care for others. In the past four years, I've realized that I want to put this drive into my newfound passion for childcare and early years education. Norland may be across an entire ocean, but I know that even having the chance to enroll there will help me boost my skills and love for childcare to standards beyond what I hope to be. I am ecstatic and hopeful for the journey that lies ahead of me for years to come,” she said.

Following her graduation from SHS in May and completing other requirements, Navarrete plans to begin her studies in September 2024.
