Meet your 2023 Sycamore valedictorian, salutatorian

Avery Wenning

Avery Wenning is the valedictorian of the Sycamore High School Class of 2023.

During his time at SHS, he played football his sophomore year and soccer his junior and senior years.

He served as Pep Club president his senior year and FCA president his junior and senior years. Additionally, he was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Sycamore Unified, National Honor Society and Student Council.

He was also named Mr. Sycamore High School and Homecoming’s best dancer – “don’t play with these hips,” he joked.

His favorite memory was leading the Pep Club at the Sycamore-Cheatham County football game during his senior year.

“We were down in the fourth, and it was like out of a movie when Rhett Hunt scored that final touchdown, the Pep Club had been loud all game and then we just went feral. I’ve never seen that kind of energy at Sycamore and there was no one on that Sycamore side who was not smiling. It was wild,” he said.

Wenning plans to attend Tennessee Tech University, where he received the Presidential Scholarship, and earn a degree in chemical engineering.
