SHS names new boys basketball coach

The Cheatham County School District has named Matt Galbreth as the new Sycamore High School boys basketball coach.

Galbreth replaces Fisher Bailey, who has been named the assistant principal at Pleasant View Elementary School. Bailey will remain as an assistant coach for the SHS team.

Galbreth has been a physical education teacher and an assistant coach for the SHS boys basketball team for three years.

He is a 2001 graduate of Cheatham County High School, where he played basketball and baseball.

Galbreth earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Austin Peay State University and a master’s degree in physical education from Cumberland University.

Prior to teaching, Galbreth was crew chief for the 160th Night Stalkers and ran the family steel business. He has coached many youth sports, but his heart has always been with basketball.

He is excited for the upcoming season and said, "I look forward to watching the War Eagles soar and continuing the hard work and dedication that Coach Bailey has laid the foundation for. In-your-face defense and relentless hard work are our goals for the next season.”
