Harpeth High School has named Charles Morehead as its new head football coach.
Morehead will replace longtime coach Doug Loope, who worked with the HHS football program for 34 years. Coach Loope was an assistant coach for 14 years and head coach for 20 years.
Morehead served as an assistant football coach at HHS from 1999-2004 and again this school year. He previously was the head football coach at Harpeth Middle School for 7 years.
“I am very excited for this opportunity to become the next head football coach at Harpeth High School. I want to thank Principal Dr. Lee Rector, Assistant Principal Shannon Schliwa and Athletic Director Ricky Woods for entrusting me with their football program,” Morehead said.
He added: “Coach Loope’s shoes will be hard to fill. I want to thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the Harpeth football program.”
Morehead said he is eager to contribute to the tradition of excellence, teamwork and sportsmanship that this program has long stood for through the years.
“My vision for the Harpeth program goes beyond victories on the scoreboard. I believe in fostering an environment where every player can grow as an athlete and as an individual, learning the values of hard work, accountability, and unity both on and off the field,” he said.
Morehead has worked for the Cheatham County School District since 2021 and is currently the woodworking teacher at Harpeth Middle School. He also serves as the mayor of Pegram – a position he has held on and off for the past 26 years.
Morehead said he looks forward to working with the players, families and community, with everyone working together to grow the program.
