Cheatham County Central High School has named Megan Hunter as its new head girls basketball coach.
Hunter will replace Jim Gibbs, who is stepping down after a successful tenure, which included winning the 2019 Class AA state championship. Gibbs plans to continue teaching and serve as the assistant coach.
Hunter, a physical education teacher at Cheatham Middle School, has served as the CCCHS assistant girls coach for the past six seasons. She also assisted the CCCHS boys basketball team alongside Aaron Nicholson for five seasons.
A 2008 graduate of CCCHS, Hunter was a standout player for the Lady Cubs, where she was a three-time all-district and three-time all-region performer. She played collegiately at Carson-Newman University, where she graduated from in 2012 with a degree in elementary education.
Hunter has worked for the Cheatham County School District since 2013. During her tenure at CMS, she assisted girls basketball for six years under Michael Carter and has coached girls and boys soccer for the past 11 years.
“I’m excited and ready to build on the tradition of our program. I want to thank Principal Steve Wenning, Assistant Principal Aime Carter and Athletic Director Jeremy Boyd for entrusting me with the school's basketball program,” she said.
She added: “I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to lead the program that shaped me, and I’m honored to continue serving a program that means so much to me.”
