Cooper named new ECES principal

The Cheatham County School District has named Layne Cooper as the new principal at East Cheatham Elementary School for the upcoming school year.

Cooper has served as the Harpeth Middle School assistant principal since 2022. Before joining the district, she worked for Dickson County Schools.

Cooper began teaching in 2012 and has worked in previous roles as a Pre-K, kindergarten, first, and second grade teacher. She taught in the classroom for eight years before moving into the role of district wide behavior interventionist, serving all schools in Dickson County.

She earned both her bachelor’s degree in early childhood development and master’s degree in educational leadership from East Tennessee State University. She completed her Ed.S. in educational leadership at ETSU and will finish her doctorate this year.

“I am thrilled and deeply honored to step into the role of principal at East Cheatham Elementary School. Together, with the dedication of our educators and the support of our community, I know we will accomplish great things. I can’t wait to get started and build meaningful connections with all the people who make East Cheatham Elementary School so special,” she said.

East Cheatham Elementary School families and students are welcome to attend a meet and greet on Monday, May 12 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. to meet the new principal.
