SHS welcomes new football coach

Sycamore High School has named Andrew Gerhardstein as its new head football coach.

Gerhardstein comes to Sycamore from Cocke County High School in Newport, where he served as an assistant football coach and defensive coordinator for the East Tennessee school.

He previously served as a running back coach at Heritage High School in Maryville, a defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois and linebacker coach at Homewood Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor, Illinois.

Gerhardstein played football for four years as a defensive lineman at Aurora University in Illinois, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He also holds a master’s degree in education from Olivet Nazerene University.

He is scheduled to join the Sycamore staff as an interim English teacher on April 6 after spring break.

“Relentlessness will be our standard. Together with this community, we will build a program that not only competes on Friday nights, but also shapes the character, discipline and purpose of young men,” Gerhardstein said.
